The EuroMed Study Visit program organized by Leaders of Tomorrow, Jordan, brings NGO representatives from nine different countries in the Euro-Mediterranean region together who have experience working with young women in their monthly activities.
The Study Visit aims to discuss the obstacles, challenges and the stories of young women facing gender inequality in Jordan, and regionally in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
The participants from the Czech Republic, Egypt, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Poland, Portugal, Sweden and Tunisia visit tour 5 days through local communities, from the impoverished Ghor and Feynan valleys to the Westernized suburbs of the capital Amman.
Participants in the Study Visit are closely involved with local women rights activists, women parliamentarians, journalists and key leaders to reflect on the many challenges women face in Jordan.
Through an open dialogue between the northern and southern countries of the Mediterranean knowledge is exchanged on the different gender roles and women stereotypes, tactics to promote gender equality are discussed, and NGO representatives network with each other and women in local Jordanian communities to exchange ideas how to strengthen participation of young women in political and social life.
Important issues such as lack of civic participation, self censorship, information challenge (lack of information and misinformation), gender stereotypes and difficulties in education and the employment market are discussed with women rights activists, prominent journalists, key leaders and above all local women from all walks of life.
The Study Visit is unique in bringing together NGO representatives that all bring their own expertise to the table and interact with local authorities and local communities in Jordan to have a double-edged learning experience for all stakeholders involved.
